Seeing the Lord Murugan statue in front of Batu Caves gives me a feeling of being back to India!<\/p>\n

With around 7% of Malaysia's population being of Indian descent, which amounts to over 2 million people, it is not surprising to find Indian restaurants and Hindu temples scattered throughout the country. Batu Caves, located not far from Kuala Lumpur, is comprised of over 20 limestone caves and is mainly dedicated to the god of war. It is not only the most visited Hindu holy place outside of India, but also a major hub for celebrating the Thaipusam festival.<\/p>\n

To reach the largest temple cave at the top, you have to climb 272 steep steps, which is a serious test of strength and endurance for the faithful. While I felt accomplished when I first reached the temple, on the way back down, I noticed some people using their hands to support themselves, climbing up step by step in a \"kneeling position.\" The devotion of this woman truly left me deeply impressed and in awe!<\/p>\n

Under the stalactites, the heartfelt prayers of the believers reminded me of my trip to India four years ago. Many places were filled with romantic beliefs in multiple gods.<\/p>\n

Take the KTM train from Kuala Lumpur Central Station (KL Sentral) to Batu Caves Station. Once you exit the station, it's about a five-minute walk to reach Batu Caves.<\/p>\n
