\u25e6 The Past of Yuchih<\/span><\/h6>\n

Legend has it that in the late Jiaqing period, a Han Chinese family started cultivating the Yuchih Basin. To protect themselves from indigenous attacks, they built a large moat around their mansion and kept fish in it. They also constructed earthen walls for added protection. This is how the name \"Yuchih\" originated. In addition to the Han settlers, Yuchi Township is also home to the Thao people. The Thao people from the Sun Moon Lake area consider Lalu their most sacred site. The cultural evolution of this location is closely linked to the Thao.<\/p>\n

01\uff5cMao Family Garden at Sun Moon Lake<\/h6>\n

In earlier times, Mao Xinxiao, known as \"Mao Wangye,\" established Mao Family Garden at Sun Moon Lake. Visitors could enjoy traditional Thao singing and dancing performances, experience the unique local customs, purchase local specialties, and take photos in traditional costumes. It was a well-known tourist spot. However, in the 1980s, the Mao Family Princess Art Troupe disbanded, and the garden was left deserted, leaving many nostalgic.<\/p>\n

02\uff5cLalu Island<\/h6>\n

The old name for Sun Moon Lake was Shui Sha Lian. A small mountain in the lake turned into an island as the water level rose, and the Thao people called it Lalu, believing it to be the sacred residence of their ancestral spirits. During the Japanese occupation, the island was named Jade Island, and a shrine was built on it. After Taiwan's restoration, it was renamed Guanghua Island, and a Yuexia Laoren Pavilion was set up, making it a famous scenic spot.<\/p>\n
