A round trip of four hours, heading to a cape 70 kilometers away from Athens, to experience the grandeur of the Temple of Poseidon at Sounion up close.
◦ Contemporary with the Parthenon
The Temple of Poseidon is located at the southernmost tip of the Greek peninsula, in the bay of Sounion, right on the sea. The mountains and sea enhance the grandeur and majesty of the Temple of Poseidon. Built in the 5th century BCE, it coexisted with the renowned Parthenon and is one of the significant relics from Athens' Golden Age.
◦ Reflections amidst the ruins
In Athens, I met a group of people who had no interest in historical ruins. For them, these ruins don't really exist because of the extensive restoration and modifications.
For someone like me, who has been deeply fascinated by ancient civilizations since childhood, it's hard to imagine. Indeed, the structure itself may collapse over time and lose its original appearance due to human modifications. But the reasons for their existence and their continued presence might be the eternal questions that these relics pose until the end of time.
