Among the six productions I watched at this year's Berlin Theater Festival (Theatertreffen), "Die Vernichtung" from the Bern Theatre in Switzerland was my absolute favorite! I was so captivated that I was afraid to miss even a single captivating moment!

This production was meticulously crafted, from its set design and lighting to the appearance of the actors and the choreography of the performers. All of these elements were carefully chosen to reflect the aesthetics and background of Western culture. Each element was carefully calculated and experimented with countless times to create a remarkably cohesive "whole."

To be honest, when I look at direct mails or flyers, I often feel that the stage photos appear much more exquisite than what I see when actually attending the performance in the theater. However, in the case of this production, although the key visual designs were already impressive, they didn't even come close to the "whole" experience! For example, right from the beginning, a dense fog rolled in. As the smoke dissipated with the shifting of the lights, the outline of the temple doors gradually emerged. Then, there were the illusions created by human-shaped shadows, which conveyed a solemnity that can only be truly felt when one is present at the scene.

After watching this play, it once again reaffirmed my belief that life truly cannot be without theater!
