Starting from Alte Brücke, when you see the statues of the Elector and Athena, you are entering the city. Keep walking, and you will reach the steep section of the Philosophenweg. Why is this approximately two-kilometer-long path called the "Philosopher's Path"?

The statement claims that this hiking trail was discovered by students from Heidelberg University. In the past, students and philosophers were synonymous because every educated student was required to study philosophy. Another, more romantic statement suggests that philosophers such as Hegel, Goethe, and Hölderlin loved to come here for walks and contemplation.

No matter the origin of the name, one thing is for sure: from here, you can enjoy breathtaking views of Heidelberg's Old Town.
