Column|How do Europeans deal with the predicament of train malfunctions?

by YU-LING

After concluding my trip to Italy, I took a train back to Munich to meet up with friends. Unfortunately, this train encountered a malfunction even before leaving Italy, forcing it to come to a halt at the small station of Rovereto.

Passengers began consulting timetables, searching for information online, and inquiring with station personnel. Both Germans and Italians translated the announcements for those who only understood English. Although everyone was somewhat tired and frustrated, no one complained. In fact, some individuals even lightened the atmosphere by cracking jokes about the weather and the railway, thereby contributing to an easing of tension.

The attempt to resolve the issue, rather than create more conflicts, truly opened my eyes to the generosity and kindness of people.
