In bustling Bangkok, there are numerous night markets that make the city's vibrant nightlife. Among them, the largest and most popular tourist night market, which opens every day, is the riverside market known as "Asiatique The Riverfront" located along the Chao Phraya River.
What sets "Asiatique The Riverfront" apart from other night markets is its clear focus on catering to foreign tourists. Here, you'll hardly find local residents, and there are no cheap street foods. Instead, you will discover carnival-like aesthetics, eye-catching live performances, limited-edition items from designers, and a vibrant and dazzling night view along the riverbank.
Tourists here understand that they are not just buying stuff, but also experiencing the atmosphere. So, we didn't mind paying 50 Baht for a coconut or 140 Baht for shrimp paste veggies, even though it's more expensive than other places.
Looking at this night market reminds me of the city I live in. I really hope that in the future, our night markets for tourists can offer more than just inflated prices under the guise of "tourism." I hope they can provide memorable experiences and value.
