Among the Chinatowns I have seen before, Petaling Street in Kuala Lumpur is the liveliest and most diverse.
Having visited Chinatowns in various countries, these places have always left me with one impression: these places are Chinese communities where people from different places find strength in unity. That's why most of the shop owners and customers are Chinese.
Petaling Street, however, offers a completely different atmosphere.
Shops open early, run by Chinese immigrants who came from Fujian and Guangdong a long time ago. They mainly sell Chinese food. When it's lunchtime, Malays and Indians show up with their affordable products, creating a bustling scene with a mix of languages. Petaling Street is more than just a street; it is a place where everyone comes together to prosper.
Compared to the bustling atmosphere of Petaling Street, the morning-exclusive street vendors on the outskirts have their own charm! From second-hand clothes to a wide variety of electronics and gadgets, there is no shortage of options. This place has also become a wonderful spot for locals to take a relaxed walk after breakfast, chat with the familiar shop owners, and enjoy their time.
