India ◦ Varanasi | The Eye-Opening Ganges Information Network

by YU-LING

The Ganges River is the busiest river I have ever seen.

At 5 in the morning, even before the sky became bright, many people had gathered at the docks, preparing ready to take boats to see the sunrise. As the day started to dawn, local people began swimming, bathing, meditating, and doing their laundry by the river. When the sun rose, devoted worshippers gathered at temples to perform their rituals. Along the banks of the Ganges River during this time, there was incredibly lively with people constantly coming and going. This was my initial observation as a tourist, new to the area.

Now, let's discuss how the locals see tourists. Last night, during the Ganges River night ceremony, I mentioned to a man that I am from Taiwan. This morning, while taking a stroll along the riverbank, three different locals who passed me at different times exclaimed, "Taiwan!" The Ganges network of information truly opened my eyes!
