When I became a stage actress four years ago, I couldn't have imagined bringing my work to Hong Kong. What we brought to the Hong Kong People's Fringe Festival this time is a piece that has been polished for two years. It's the third year now, and I still have a complicated feeling with this work.
When I feel like the flow isn't as smooth as before, the director thinks it's excellent. When I think the performance is finally ending with a well-adjusted flow of breath, the director reminds us not to forget the original intention of "making waves without exaggeration."
The performance was took place at Theatre Horizon(天邊外水泊劇場)in Kowloon. Performers could hear distinct echoes in the performance area, which caused us to hesitate in how to adjust their intensity. However, the audience didn't notice any of these echoes at all. Realizing this spatial disconnect, I became quite excited to find myself in such an intriguing setting.
After I making some adjustments, finally, in the third performance, the essence of "making waves without exaggeration" began to show.
Throughout three years and nine performances, this unforgettable feeling only appeared once, but it became my motivation to keep going. If possible, I truly hope to have the opportunity to encounter this work again.
