Chile ◦ Easter Island | Flight Delays are Normal

by YU-LING

I arrived at the airport two hours early, prepared to catch a morning domestic flight to Easter Island. With plenty of time to spare, I leisurely enjoyed breakfast and then proceeded to customs at a relaxed pace. At the gate, not only was I asked to fill out an entry form, but I also found myself in a queue that seemed to move at the typical pace of international flights.

At that moment, an alarm went off in my mind: "Isn't Easter Island part of Chile?!"
"Why does the scene look like I am preparing for international travel?"

As the boarding time approached and I found myself still stuck in the long line, I began to sweat nervously. Sensing my anxiety, a kind lady behind me reassured me, saying, "Don't worry, flights to Easter Island are always delayed." Her friendly reassurance was a relief, yet the delay stretched to five and a half hours due to the severe weather changes on the island.

After much hassle, I finally set off and arrived safely. My first day on Easter Island ended with the sunset behind the Moai statues.
