My twelve-day trip to Vietnam is coming to an end, and this is the third time I've traveled without a suitcase. After trying it in Spain two years ago, I couldn't go back to using a suitcase. Not only do I not have to worry about whether the suitcase can handle the local roads, but I can also pack quickly in a short time. It's a travel style that can be quite addictive!
On this journey, with a backpack weighing less than 5 kilograms (which also includes an 11-inch MacBook Air and two books), I comfortably survived the chilly 5-degree weather in Halong Bay. Now, I can finally share my experience of packing for winter travel based on the results of this experiment. By following these three principles, you can easily get through winter with just a backpack.

◦ Bring Three Sets of Clothing Only
I once read a quote in a travel magazine: "Three sets of clothing can get you through a week, and a week can turn into a month." It's true! Sometimes, I even feel like I've brought too much. Unless I have to check out early the next day, I always wash my quick-drying and daily-changing underwear when I take a shower. As for the heavy coats and less quick-drying clothes that don't need frequent cleaning, I use the washing machine and dryer depending on how dirty they are.
◦ Wear Heavy Clothing
The heaviest winter clothing and shoes that you need can be worn before boarding the plane, as sometimes the cabin can be quite cold. By wearing these items, you can save space and reduce the weight of your carry-on luggage. The space and weight saved can be used to bring back more souvenirs when you return home!
◦ Separate Liquid Items
Calculate the daily amount of toiletries and skincare products you will need, then pack them in small 100 ml containers. Put all containers, totaling no more than 1000 ml, into a transparent, resealable bag, and you're good to go on the plane! What if you have more than 1000 ml? Well, you can leave out items that are easy to buy locally and restock them once you arrive!
Let's give this addictive travel method a try together!
